In GTA IV there are 8 classes of weapons, and like previous games, the player can only carry one weapon of each type. If a slot is filled and you pick up a weapon of the same type, you will replace the current one. However, ammunition is shared between weapons of the same type, so you won't lose it when changing weapons.

Below you find all the 17 weapons available in the Grand Theft Auto 4 base game, which are also present in the TLaD & TBoGT episodes.
All of these weapons can be purchased by Niko from the Underground Gun Shops, as well as picked up from various locations around the Liberty City map. The majority of the weapons can also be obtained at a reduced price by calling Little Jacob, after building up a friendship with him.
Weapons in GTA IV: The Lost and Damned
Below you find the list of additional DLC weapons in the GTA IV: The Lost and Damned expansion. Six new weapons were introduced with the TLAD episode, in addition to the weapons from the main GTA 4 game.
These new weapons can only be purchased by calling Terry, or unlocked after completing Gang War missions in TLAD. They cannot be found at Gun Shops or around the map.
Weapons in GTA IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony
Below you find the list of additional DLC weapons in the GTA IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony expansion. Eight new weapons were introduced with the TBoGT episode, in addition to the weapons from the main GTA 4 game.
These new weapons can only be purchased by calling Armando, or unlocked after completing Drug War missions in TBoGT. They cannot be found at Gun Shops or around the map.
