How To Unlock the Full Map in RDR2
When you start the game, the Red Dead Redemption 2 map in the menu is completely covered by fog, with areas becoming visible only as you visit them and progress through the game.
In the first chapter of the RDR2 Story, you begin your journey in Ambarino, at the north of the map.
After Chapter 2, the Red Dead 2 map becomes completely accessible with the exception of Blackwater and the state of New Austin.
You'll have access to the states of New Hanover, Lemoyne, West Elizabeth, and of course Ambarino. You will have to travel around the world in order to "uncover" these areas on the map.
Finally, Blackwater and the state of New Austin become accessible only in the Epilogue of the game, as they're locked in the main chapters.
If you try to enter those locations before reaching the Epilogue, you will be automatically shot by an invisible sniper.
While many locations from the first Red Dead Redemption game are featured in the RDR2 map, unfortunately, Mexico is not officially included in the sequel.
However, it is possible to use a glitch to travel to Mexico, and while you can explore it freely, the Mexico area is very barren and incomplete.
How To Access Guarma & Mexico in RDR2
In addition to the "main" game map, Red Dead Redemption 2 also features a tropical island called Guarma.
Guarma is described to be an island east of Cuba, and can normally be accessed only during Chapter 5 of the RDR2 Story Mode.
However, it is possible to reach Guarma and even Mexico at any time using a glitch, which you can see in the video below:
Cheat Code To Unlock the Full RDR2 Map Early
Even though you can unlock the full Red Dead Redemption 2 map by playing through the story, the game also features a cheat code that reveals the entire RDR2 map early.
The cheat code to unlock the full Red Dead 2 map is "You Long for Sight but See Nothing". You can use it only after completing the Chapter 3 mission "Blood Feuds, Ancient and Modern", and purchasing the newspaper "Saint Denis Times no. 47".
The Red Dead 2 cheats are code phrases that you enter in the "Cheats" section of the Pause Menu.
However, Red Dead 2 cheats can only be used temporarily, as they don't allow you to save your progress and will temporarily disable achievements. You will have to close the game and re-open it to resume your normal progress.
