Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars takes place in the same Liberty City depicted in GTA IV, but with a top-down perspective and a smaller scale. The game is set in 2009, one year after Grand Theft Auto IV and its expansions.

While the core layout of Liberty City is the same as in GTA IV, the borough of Alderney is absent, leaving only the boroughs of Broker (Brooklyn), Dukes (Queens), Bohan (The Bronx), and Algonquin (Manhattan).

GTA Chinatown Wars Map: Broker

Based on Brooklyn, Broker serves as the entry point for the game and is home to working-class neighborhoods and crime activity.

• Hove Beach: A predominantly Russian district filled with Eastern European gangs. Home to the Russian Mafia.
• Outlook: A middle-class residential area with parks and houses, similar to GTA IV.
• Firefly Island: Features a boardwalk and amusement park, though less detailed than in GTA IV.
• BOABO: The industrial and warehouse district, often used for smuggling operations.

Broker and Dukes share an island, with all other boroughs separated by water.

Map Differences Between GTA Chinatown Wars & GTA IV

While GTA Chinatown Wars is set in the same Liberty City as GTA IV, several adjustments were made to be visible from the isometric top-down perspective:

• The city layout was altered to a more grid-like structure, with straightened roads, repositioned buildings, and simplified skyscrapers.
• Bridges and tunnels were lowered to ground level.
• Alderney is absent from the map as it had no role in the story.
• Some areas, like the Liberty City Gun Club and a new safehouse, were added.
• Several locations, including the Firefly Island amusement park and Roman Bellic’s properties, were updated or repurposed.
• Various buildings, such as the Meadows Park Museum and multiple warehouses, were destroyed due to the game’s storyline.
