Red Dead Redemption 2 is now available for the PC, with a range of graphical and technical enhancements to bring new life and detail to the story of Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang, on the run from the law across America in the final days of the 19th Century.
New Features & Content

- Increased draw distances for better navigation
- Higher quality global illumination and ambient occlusion for improved day and night lighting
- Higher quality snow trails, improved reflections and deeper, higher resolution shadows at all distances
- Tessellated tree textures and improved grass and fur textures for added realism in every plant and animal.
- Support for high-end display setups with 4K resolution and beyond
- Multi-monitor configurations, widescreen configurations, faster frame rates
Story Mode Additions
In addition to the technical enhancements, Red Dead Redemption 2 for PC brings additional updates to the world of RDR2 Story Mode, including:
- A new Photo Mode, with an assortment of tools to unlock the beauty of the frontier in Story Mode. Capture images with free form camera movement and add Filters, Stickers or Text then upload them to Social Club to share with the community.
- 3 New Bounty Hunter Missions: Apprehend a trio of wanted fugitives - thief Herman Zizendorf, Ex-Confederate Officer Camille de Millemont and gang leader Bart Cavanaugh.
- 2 New Gang Hideouts: Take on the deadly Del Lobos gang at Gaptooth Breach and Solomon’s Folly.
- 2 New Treasure Maps: Hunt for treasures across the new Landmarks of Riches and The Elemental Trail maps for Gold Bars and other rewards.
- New Mission “To The Ends of The Earth” – collect requested herbs for a range of rewards
- 5 New Trinkets to collect with new effects
New Weapons
A new Weapon has been added exclusively for Red Dead Redemption 2 Story Mode on PC: the M1899 Pistol, an all-new Semi-automatic handgun with clip loaded ammunition.

New Horses
Five new Horses have been added exclusively for Red Dead Redemption 2 Story Mode on PC:
Two existing horses previously available in Red Dead Online only, have been made available to Red Dead Redemption 2 Story Mode on PC:
- Perlino Andalusian – a healthy, sturdy animal, ideal for hunting
- Red Chestnut Arabian – a fleet-footed beast with a distinctive coat
PC Post-Launch Stability Fixes
Graphics & Performance Fixes (November 13, 2019)
- Added an additional launch argument (-cpuLoadRebalancing) to rebalance workload on the CPU cores and avoid hitting an edge-case in certain NVIDIA graphics card drivers that causes significant stalls on 4-core and 6-core CPUs. For more information, see this support page.
- Added improvements for performance and stability on graphics cards with 4GB of VRAM or less when using Vulkan
- Fixed an issue that resulted in audio stuttering and sound drops on some CPUs when using Vulkan
- Fixed an issue that resulted in graphics problems when using Fullscreen mode on systems with multiple displays
- Fixed an issue that resulted in the game becoming stuck in Windowed Borderless mode instead of Fullscreen mode if the game lost focus or certain graphics settings were changed under DirectX 12
- Fixed issues that resulted in the incorrect detection of devices and problems switching between SDR and HDR modes. Players who previously encountered these issues should enable HDR through the Windows Display Settings prior to launching the game
- Fixed an issue that resulted in the game launching in a window larger than the maximum resolution of the attached display when using Windowed display mode
- Improved the auto-detection of system hardware so that the recommended default graphics settings will provide higher performance
- Fixed an issue that resulted in the game setting a default graphics preset that was unsupported by the amount of available VRAM on some graphics cards, preventing the game from launching
- Fixed an issue that resulted in VRAM usage estimation for pending settings changes to be slightly different to the actual usage once the settings were applied
- Added a separate option to enable tessellation on tree models within the Graphics settings menu
- Fixed an issue that resulted in reduced performance when switching between different graphics settings presets without restarting the system
- Fixed an issue that affected the brightness of Photo Mode images that were captured in HDR after editing them using the Social Club menu
- Fixed issues with some full-screen effects and Photo Mode filters when using a display aspect ratio other than 16:9
