Follow a mysterious email's clues to discover hidden treasure in San Andreas, facing a series of challenges and uncovering clues at various locations, leading to a lucrative and weaponized reward.
The Treasure Hunt was a mission added in the Enhanced Version of GTA Online, serving as a teaser to Red Dead Redemption 2. It involved players searching for a treasure based on clues provided as images in an e-mail.
Step 1. First Clue
A random e-mail is sent to the protagonist by
The photo will be one of 20 locations picked at random, which can be seen below. The search radius for the initial search is very wide, but is within the area pictured in the photo sent to the player's phone. The clue is a note, usually pinned to a rock.
When getting close to the clue, the sound of a metal wind chime can be heard, and that is a good indication of the player's distance to the clue. Upon finding it, the player will receive three more clue locations marked on their map.
Step 2. Fixed Clues
The next three clues are always the same and may be found in any order
- A corpse with a severe head injury in a small cave near a creek in the Tongva Hills.
- A bloody shovel, the murder weapon, in a wrecked building on the beach at Sandy Shores.
- An empty gun case at the base of a tree on Joad Lane in Grapeseed.
Step 3. The Treasure
After finding these three clues, the location of a treasure chest will be marked on the player's map.
On arrival, the player will find two more corpses, another bloody shovel, and a case with the writing "Boles Overland Stagecoach Company". Opening the case will reveal the Double-Action Revolver.
Step 4. The Headshot Challenge
A headshot challenge may be completed using the double-action revolver.
Performing 50 headshots (PvP or PvE) with the weapon will award the player a hefty $250,000 and will unlock the Double-Action Revolver in Red Dead Redemption 2. Only one character may receive the $250,000 per account.
