Money & Progression
Throughout your travels in Red Dead Online you will always be accumulating XP, Cash and Gold – whether you’re taking on co-op missions, surviving an Ambush, attacking a Gang Hideout, finding treasure or competing in Showdown Modes.
You can enjoy a variety of gameplay in Red Dead Online as you earn and progress all the while.
A great showing in a competitive mode can help bring in more RDO$ and XP. Taking on activities and missions as part of a Posse will also net you increased RDO$ and XP payouts.
Treasure Maps
Whether you are short on cash or hungry for more in Red Dead Online, Treasure Maps are a good opportunity to unearth yourself a fortune.
By Ranking Up
When you reach Rank 10, you will be rewarded with a Treasure Map that can be collected from either the Post Office or your Camp Lockbox, revealing a chest containing Gold and RDO$.
Another Treasure Map will be sent to the Post Office (or can be collected from your Camp Lockbox) for you to collect at Rank 15, and every 5 Ranks after that.
By Looting Enemies
There's also a chance you'll uncover Treasure Maps (as well as consumables such as Tonics) by looting enemies after clearing a Hideout or surviving an Ambush.
How to use a Treasure Map in Red Dead Online
When you have discovered a Treasure Map, find it in your Satchel and choose ''Use' to begin the hunt. The Pause Map and radar will then reveal and highlight the general area where the treasure is located.
Somewhere in this expanse a treasure chest will be hidden out of sight. Head to the area to begin searching for the chest. But remember, you can only concentrate on one map at a time.
Finding the Treasures
As you enter the area, you will feel a slight vibration which will grow more intense as you move closer to the treasure. Follow the feeling, or use Eagle Eye by selecting L3 and R3 to focus your vision and locate the chest.
Treasure chests can hold a variety of plunder from Gold Nuggets to cash, consumable items, ammo and clothing. Loot the chest and receive your reward. After finding the chest, the highlighted area will disappear from your Pause Map, and you will be free to use another Treasure Map and seek out your next prize.
Gold Bars Currency
Alongside cash (RDO$) you can also obtain Gold. The Gold currency can be spent on a number of luxury items, access locked items early, and to purchase unlocked items.
Gold Bars can be obtained in several ways:
- You can earn Gold in-game in the form of Gold Nuggets, by playing through the various game modes and activities. It takes 100 Gold Nuggets to make a Gold Bar. Once you own 100 Gold Nuggets, these will automatically convert to 1 Gold Bar.
- You receive 1 Gold Bar per each Rank you progress through.
- You can purchase Gold Bars with real money through the in-game Store.
- Gold Bars are also periodically awarded or gifted by Rockstar as bonus rewards.
Note: The value of 1 Gold Bar is the same as 25 RDO$ in-game cash currency.
