It is still easy to AFK in GTA Online as of the Money Fronts update with very little effort involved. Rockstar Games recently patched out the infamous taxi method, meaning players have been wondering how they could idle without getting kicked by the usual 15-minute timer.
However, there are a few new methods involving in-game credits and modern PlayStation controllers that gamers might wish to know about.
There are no in-game requirements to do these AFK tricks. Please note that both methods have been confirmed to work for GTA Online as of June 20, 2025, on the PS5. The credits exploit has also been reported to work on other platforms. These AFK tricks could get patched in a future update, so take advantage of them while they’re still around.
Alternative methods, such as rubber banding, are also still present, although they are less recommended due to potential controller damage and other consistency issues.
Here is how you can AFK in GTA Online as of the Money Fronts update
AFKing in GTA Online is still easy, even if Rockstar Games tries to patch things out. Here is one method that has been tested and confirmed to work on PS5:
- Boot up GTA Online.
- Go somewhere safe where you won’t potentially be bothered by other players. An Invite Only session is also recommended and has been confirmed to work in case you wish to be extra safe, given the in-game community.
- Pause the game.
- Go to Online.
- Scroll down and select the Credits & Legal option.
- Press the button prompt you see on the bottom right of the screen next to Show Credits.
- Once the credits boot up, press the "Slower" command button a few times until you stop the credits.
- You can now stay on this screen as long as you want.
From here, just sit back and don’t do anything that could interrupt your session.
GTA Online players can then periodically end the credits and return to the game to collect passive income or do anything else that interests them.
Exclusive AFK method for PlayStation players
There is also a handy AFK method that works even better than the previous method, albeit only for GTA Online players on a PlayStation console, such as the PS5. Here is a quick summary of what to do:
- Bring up the phone menu.
- Access the in-game Internet.
- Touch the touchpad around for a bit. Personally, the test used to confirm this method’s validity did so via a circular manner. You can also try moving the mouse via the touchpad in a circular motion, just to be safe.
- Press Triangle to leave.
- Just wait now.
This AFK method has been confirmed to work on the PS5 and may also work on the PS4. One downside to this method is that the idle camera angle that pans to interesting vehicles and people doesn’t seem to work, but that shouldn’t be a problem for GTA Online players planning on AFKing for an hour or more.
Benefits of AFKing in GTA Online
One of the reasons the old Nightclub garage door trick and the AFK in taxi method were so popular before they were patched was that they allowed players to gain money and resources with no effort.
Businesses that have passive income, such as Nightclubs, Garment Factories, or even Arcades, will generate money so long as you’re logged into a session.
In this example, a Nightclub alone can give you $50,000 every 48 minutes (one in-game day). The AFK idle timer is usually 15 minutes, so being able to AFK on the credits screen for longer than that is good. You can factor in all the other businesses that passively give you money on top of the Nightclub.
So long as you remember to pick up your money from these safes before they get full, then you’re all set. One more thing worth mentioning is that you can also gain products for your businesses if they’re adequately stocked (at least with the PlayStation DualSense controller method).
You can then do the Sell Missions and repeat the process for easy grinding.
The method of how you AFK may vary from one patch to another, but you can still try the aforementioned tricks as of the Money Fronts update. If they get patched, a new method will likely be discovered and posted online. How quickly Rockstar Games patches things can vary wildly, so it is possible that these AFK methods could even work weeks to months from now.
In the meantime, enjoy this knowledge for your casual grinding purposes! AFKing isn't the quickest way to make money in GTA Online, but it's certainly one of the easiest.
