GTA 6 will launch on PS5 and Xbox Series S|X on November 19, but the game will be limited to 30FPS on these platforms. In fact, it is said that most PCs might even struggle to hit 60FPS when the game launches on PC next year or later.

This leaves gamers with the question of GTA 6 on the PS5 Pro. Because Rockstar Games and Sony advertise the title as “PS5 Pro Enhanced,” many have wondered what this could mean for the overall frame rate.

Although Rockstar Games has yet to say much about the PS5 Pro enhancements for the title, GTA 6 might end up going all in on the visuals instead of trying to achieve 60FPS.

Leaked PS5 Pro Guidelines Hint At GTA 6 Visual Upgrade

GTA 6

Recently leaked information from insider Moore’s Law is Dead showcases exactly what developers need to do to achieve the “PS5 Pro Enhanced” tag from Sony.

According to the report, Sony itself recommends developers do all of the following with their games on the PS5 Pro:

  • Utilization of PSSR to upscale output resolution to 2160p.
  • Targeting a stable frame rate of 60fps.
  • Implementing new or significantly more intense ray tracing features.

However, Sony also offers an alternative for developers aiming to achieve the “PS5 Pro Enhanced” label. Listing a number of technical improvements, the gaming giant says that any one of the following upgrades can earn developers that label.

  • Increased target resolution (games that use a static resolution on PS5).
  • Increased maximum target resolution (games with dynamic scaling on PS5).
  • Higher target frame rate (for games with a fixed frame rate cap on Standard PS5).
  • Addition of new or higher-quality ray tracing effects.

The leak also reveals that certain enhancements, such as improved average resolution when using dynamic resolutions, better average variable refresh rates, and more stable performance, do not qualify for the label.

The leaker notes that Sony appears to be focused on stable frame rates with the PS5 Pro, and with GTA 6 already having the “PS5 Pro Enhanced” badge, it would be hard to imagine the title aiming for 60FPS.

GTA 6 Enhancements On PS5 Pro

GTA 6

Because recent analysis from Digital Foundry suggests GTA 6 will run at a static 1440p resolution on the base PS5 as opposed to a dynamic resolution, Sony’s PS5 Pro guidelines likely mean that Rockstar Games will aim for a native 4K experience on the console.

This is perhaps why the game already has the “PS5 Pro Enhanced” label. PS5 Pro users can also expect enhanced ray-tracing on the hardware, but as for the frame rate itself, things might be trickier.

GTA 6 could aim for a 40FPS experience on the console, and typically, that would not warrant the aforementioned label. However, because GTA 6 isn’t just any other AAA title, Sony could be willing to make an exception.

Anyhow, recent analysis and this leak suggest that a native 4K experience seems very likely for GTA 6 on the PS5 Pro. Rockstar Games previously offered a similar resolution for Red Dead Redemption 2 on the Xbox One X in 2018, so the team is expected to go the same route with GTA 6.
