GTA 6 officially launches on consoles in just over two months, on November 19, but the game will not be available on PC this year. As is usually the case with Rockstar Games’ titles, the PC release will come later, likely with additional bells and whistles for this audience.

However, how long the team will take to release GTA 6 on PC is an entirely different question. Many have speculated all sorts of timelines, but word on the street is that Rockstar Games hopes to launch GTA 6 on PC sooner than usual.

Why GTA 6 Might Launch on PC Sooner Than Most Expect

On episode 187 of the VGC podcast, reliable journalist Andy Robinson discussed a rumor he had recently come across.

According to the journalist, it has been suggested that Rockstar Games wants to hurry up with GTA 6’s PC release. It is said that the rationale behind this decision involves the ongoing situation in the hardware market.

For starters, GTA 6’s excitement has led to a huge surge in pre-order numbers, which has ultimately led to more people buying consoles. PS5 consoles, in particular, are quickly running out of stock, and this is true even more so for the PS5 Pro.

This is one reason why Rockstar Games is said to be pursuing a narrower gap between the console and PC releases. Another reason might be the fact that memory shortages and rising hardware prices have made it difficult for gamers to move beyond their existing setups.

Therefore, those with PCs may not necessarily have cash to spare for a PS5 or Xbox Series S|X console right now. The team is also likely to have an easier time porting the game to PC compared to in the past.

This is because modern consoles use the x86 architecture, which isn’t too different from that of the latest PCs. Thanks to their Zen 2 CPUs and RDNA 2 GPUs, porting games from consoles to PCs has never been easier.

Keep in mind that Rockstar Games already accelerated its PC porting process between GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. While the former took nearly 2 years to arrive on PC, Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on the platform in just over a year. As such, GTA 6 could further accelerate the process and arrive in less than a full year.

A Faster PC Release Would Be Huge For GTA 6

If the journalist’s word holds, PC gamers could have their hands on GTA 6 at some point in 2027. If this ends up being the case, the PC audience would be more than happy to turn up for the port in huge numbers on day one.

Because GTA 6 is pushing the envelope of open-world simulation and game visuals so much, it would have a lot to gain from the beefier hardware found in most PCs. In particular, the game’s image quality and ray-tracing implementation would benefit from the more modern Nvidia and AMD graphics cards.

Of course, the PC release would also come with the added benefit of delivering 60FPS gameplay, something that would be exclusive to the platform due to console hardware limitations.
