GTA 6 has now been shown to the world, and to little surprise, Rockstar Games has outdone itself yet again.
After selling more than 200 million units with GTA 5 and raising the bar for open-world gameplay with Red Dead Redemption 2, the team appears to have set its sights on delivering some of the most immersive open-world gameplay seen to date.
GTA 6’s simulation is clearly its biggest highlight, but this means that the team has had to make a few key sacrifices. The game runs at 30FPS on consoles, and a tech analysis reveals that most PCs might not be able to aim much higher.
GTA 6 Frame Rate on PCs

According to Digital Foundry, the Netflix Extended Look footage ran at 1440p 30FPS on the standard PS5, featuring a slew of seriously impressive details. In particular, the dynamic nature of GTA 6’s NPCs and open world stood out.
The tech experts at Digital Foundry say that it’s no surprise that GTA 6 runs at 30FPS, given the amount of simulation activity shown in the latest footage, which inevitably strains the console’s CPU.
For context, the PS5 features a Zen 2 CPU with 8 cores clocked at 3.5GHz. The catch is that this Zen 2 CPU reserves 2 cores for the PS5 UI and comes with limited cache compared to desktop Zen 2 counterparts like the Ryzen 7 3700X.
What this means is that the PS5’s CPU isn’t too impressive to begin with, and the same goes for the PS5 Pro. Therefore, it doesn’t come as the biggest surprise that 30FPS is the target frame rate for GTA 6, but Digital Foundry suggests gaming PCs may not fare much better.
In fact, the experts believe that higher-end Ryzen X3D CPUs might be needed to achieve 60FPS gameplay in GTA 6. This means that PC gamers could be looking at a CPU like the Ryzen 7 5800X3D being part of GTA 6’s system requirements for a 60FPS target.
More budget-friendly options, such as the Ryzen 5 5600X and Ryzen 7 7600X, while better than the CPU featured in the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X, may still not be enough to handle GTA 6’s simulative nature for a consistent 60FPS.
PC gamers with these CPUs, however, could still aim for a 40FPS experience, which is significantly better than the standard 30FPS gameplay consoles will deliver at launch.
The PC Advantage In GTA 6

One area where PCs will shine when running GTA 6 will be on the graphical side of things. Thanks to upscaling technology like Nvidia’s DLSS, PC gamers can expect to see generally sharper visuals when GTA 6 eventually arrives on the platform.
Similarly, the more advanced ray-tracing capabilities of modern GPUs should lend themselves better to the game’s lighting, shadows, and reflections. Even modest graphics cards like the GeForce RTX 4070 should fare quite a bit better than the base PS5 in this regard, giving PC gamers some hope.
Rockstar Games has a solid reputation when it comes to optimizing its titles, so GTA 6 should be no different. The caveat is that this may lead to a longer waiting period for the title on PC.
