Rockstar Confirms GTA 6 Won’t Have Gen AI or Microtransactions

Rockstar has recently confirmed publicly that GTA 6 won't feature Gen AI or generative AI and microtransactions.

In this era of gaming, fans have had enough of generative AI and microtransactions in games. The fandom isn't fond of these words and innately starts bashing games that feature both.

One of the major examples can be Ubisoft lately, as fans have been brutal with the implementation of microtransactions. It is considered in the gaming industry that if a game is already costing so much money for the consumer to buy, there should not be microtransactions in that game.

However, in free-to-play games, they somewhat make sense unless they offer any type of assistance or abilities in the game. So, fans have been skeptical about whether GTA 6 will include any of this. Rockstar has recently broken the ice by revealing that neither Gen AI nor microtransactions will be a part of GTA 6, which is great news.

No Gen AI And Microtransactions In GTA 6

Recently, Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson claimed that GTA 6 was built without generative AI. He further revealed that the developers emphasized that the world was created by the team rather than generated from AI prompts.

This bit makes complete sense because GTA 6 is said to be the most expensive game of all time. The reported cost to make the game seems already pretty extraordinary, so it makes complete sense why the developers want to create the world all by themselves.

A game that is already costing this much shouldn't have a trace of AI; on the other hand, having placeholders for their vision. The same thing was seen in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and that seems to be a fair thing.

However, it seems like Rockstar doesn't want anything to do with Generative AI. Other than that, Rockstar has further confirmed that GTA 6 won't have any microtransactions. So, if you have bought the game, it is going to be a one-time purchase, and you won't have to buy anything from the store or such using your real money.

Everything you may see other people have will be able to be unlocked in the game. This sets a great precedent for the future.

GTA 6 Online Could Still Have Microtransactions

Kinda Funny Gamecast hosts recently revealed that they asked Rob Nelson whether there will be microtransactions or generative AI in GTA 6, to which Nelson said no. Now, Rockstar has confirmed that there are going to be no microtransactions in the base game. However, that cannot be said for the online version. Rockstar has been silent on the online component of GTA 6, but we can't rule out it having microtransactions.

The previous GTA Online relied heavily on microtransactions like Shark Cards. So, something similar may be seen in GTA 6 Online, but it is guaranteed there won't be any in the base game.

Other than that, while Rockstar has confirmed there won't be any Generative AI, that doesn't mean there won't be AI at all. That said, AI for NPC behaviour has always existed, so there's nothing to worry about there.
