GTA 6 Vehicles Confirmed Features
The following are all the vehicle-related features that have been confirmed for Grand Theft Auto VI:
- Vehicle Diversity: The game features hundreds of vehicles including
Sports Cars, Motorcycles, Helicopters, Planes, and Boats. - Handling & Physics: Heavier handling physics compared to GTA V. Overturned cars cannot be magically flipped back over by steering. Despite this, the game features higher top speeds for vehicles.
- Fuel & Battery System: Cars and motorcycles have a functional fuel gauge; running out of fuel can strand players mid-chase. Fuel lasts a long time, so it's not tedious. You can refuel cars at gas stations, while electric vehicles can be charged at charging stations.
- Traffic: Traffic density is much higher, and roads are narrower than GTA V, making driving through busy areas more challenging.
- Reinvented Car Theft: Parked cars are now categorized into multiple security tiers: older cars can be stolen with a slim jim or by smashing windows, while modern high-end cars require key-cloners or more advanced tools. Stolen cars can be either kept or sold.
Garage Properties: Purchasable garages are available, some of which feature a weapon locker and a deposit for stolen goods. - Trackers & Fences: High-end cars feature trackers that alert the police of your location if you drive too slowly. As you progress with fences, they can remove increasingly advanced trackers from stolen cars.
- Detailed Car Interiors: Incredible amount of detail and dynamic animations, including working car mirrors, interactive pedals, steering wheel position, rearview mirror position, armrest position, seat position, seat reclining, sun visor, and more.
- Crash Damage:
The game features significantly more detailed vehicle crash damage. Heavy collisions can trigger a brief slow-motion effect, emphasizing particularly violent crashes. - Vehicle Interaction Menu: Vehicles feature a dedicated interaction menu to individually control elements like opening the trunk, hood, and doors.
When inside a car, a prompt appears indicating that you can "Tap d-pad left to access the vehicle controls menu, or hold d-pad left to bring up the quick options." - Vehicle Trunk Storage: Personal vehicles and stolen cars act as mobile weapon inventories (similar to RDR2's horse) to store extra firearms, duffel bags, and spare outfit changes.
- Pay & Spray returns, allowing you to repaint cars (to break police chases), repair them, assess vehicle value, or register stolen cars.
- Vehicle Customization: Various mod shops are available across Leonida, each having its own specific purpose and set of modifications. Nitrous is available in GTA 6 and can be used during driving and racing.
Public transportation: includes a tram system that players can seamlessly enter and ride, as well as fast travel options.

GTA 6 Cars & Vehicles: Frequently Asked Questions
How many vehicles will be in GTA 6?
The number of vehicles included in the Grand Theft Auto series has gotten bigger and bigger over the years, and with GTA 6 being the most ambitious project that Rockstar has ever created, we can expect at least 300 vehicles in GTA 6 at launch, which would be the highest in the series.
For comparison, here are some numbers from the previous games in the series:
- GTA III: 56 vehicles
- GTA Vice City: 102 vehicles
- GTA San Andreas: 189 vehicles
- GTA IV & Episodes: 177 vehicles
- GTA 5 (At Launch): 252 vehicles
- GTA 5 + GTA Online: 800+ vehicles
GTA 5 featured about 250 vehicles at launch, but Rockstar Games has then added over 500 DLC vehicles throughout the years, with the total number of GTA V & GTA Online vehicles now being over a staggering 800 vehicles.
In Grand Theft Auto V, cars were divided into multiple classes, such as Supercars, Sports Cars, Sedans, Coupes, Muscle Cars, and more. The game also included a variety of other vehicles such as SUVs, Vans, Off-Road, and Military Vehicles. We can definitely expect the same Class System and variety of vehicles to return in GTA 6, with probably an even higher number of vehicles at launch.
It is worth noting that many of the GTA Online vehicles introduced with DLC updates included a diverse range of unusual vehicles, such as Flying Bikes, Weaponized Vehicles, Armored Vehicles, large Command Centers, Open-Wheel (Formula 1) cars, and more. It will be interesting to see whether Rockstar carries over this approach to GTA 6, or if they decide to scale back on the over-the-top style.
How To Get Vehicles in GTA 6?
Stealing cars has always been at the heart of Grand Theft Auto, but GTA 6 is introducing a much more sophisticated vehicle theft system.
- Carjacking: Occupied vehicles driving on the road can still be stolen normally, just like in previous GTA games. There is now a quick-time event as passengers fight back, trying to keep their vehicle.
- Parked Vehicles now feature varying security tiers: older or less secure cars may be vulnerable to simple methods, such as using a slim jim or simply smashing windows, while higher-end vehicles will require key-cloners or more advanced tools that you unlock through the game.
You will need to use the WAINK scanner to evaluate a parked car's protection level and value before committing to the theft. For the full details on the new system, check out our complete guide on how stealing cars works in GTA 6.
Can You Buy Cars in GTA 6?
We talked about the different ways to steal cars in the game, but can you actually acquire one legally?
Yes, GTA 6 will likely have several options for purchasing vehicles. Alongside buying them online through the in-game internet similar to GTA V, the map of Leonida features physical car dealerships and showrooms where you can browse and purchase your next ride directly from the showroom floor.
The GTA 6 protagonists also already have their own personal cars and bikes, which will stick with you throughout the course of the game.
How To Sell Vehicles in GTA 6?
GTA 6 introduces a new way to profit directly from stolen vehicles. After stealing a car, players will be able to take it to a fence and sell it.
The value of a stolen vehicle can depend on factors such as its condition and security systems. A tracker-equipped vehicle may also need additional attention before it becomes an attractive purchase.
The WAINK scanner can display a vehicle's value, allowing players to identify potentially profitable targets. The most valuable vehicle will definitely not be the easiest one to steal. Also, damage can reduce the value of a stolen vehicle, making a clean getaway important.
How To Keep Stolen Vehicles in GTA 6?
GTA 6 also allows Jason and Lucia to keep multiple personal vehicles and store them in purchasable garages.
If you want to turn a stolen vehicle into one of your own personal cars, you will need to register the vehicle as your own. If a car has a tracker, you will first need to go to a fence that can remove the tracker.
Unregistered vehicles are "temporary" and will eventually despawn. However, you can store a stolen vehicle inside your garage even before registering it, allowing valuable cars to be kept until their trackers can eventually be removed.
Can You Recover Destroyed Vehicles in GTA 6?
A system that wasn't well received in GTA V, was the fact that if one of your vehicles was destroyed, it would be lost forever.
GTA 6 improves on this, allowing you to always get your destroyed vehicles back by simply paying a fee via the Scooter Bros app.
Abandoning a vehicle for too long causes similar consequences as GTA V: it will end up in the Impound Lot at the local police station, where you can also get it back for a fee - or by stealing it back from the impound.
Is there Vehicle Customization in GTA 6?
Yes, absolutely. Vehicle customization plays a big role in GTA 6. After being first introduced in GTA San Andreas, modding vehicles with a multitude of aesthetics and performance upgrades became a huge feature in Grand Theft Auto V.
It will definitely be possible to upgrade GTA 6 cars and vehicles with a wide range of customizations, including Liveries, Car Body, Engine, Brakes, Lights, Suspension, Transmission, Wheels, Windows, Turbo Tuning, and probably even Explosives and Weapons in some cases.
GTA 6 features various mod shops, with different types of customizations offered by each. One of the confirmed mod shops in GTA 6 seems to be called "Ride Out Customs".
Is there First-Person Driving in GTA 6?
While unconfirmed, GTA 6 will likely support both first-person and third-person driving modes.
While all classic GTA games were exclusively third-person games, this changed when Rockstar released the PS4, Xbox One, and PC editions of Grand Theft Auto V, where they introduced a full-fledged first-person mode.
We expect that GTA 6 will feature both 3rd person and 1st person modes, coming with first-person cockpit views for vehicles, fully modeled interiors, working speedometers, gas dials, radio, and instrument panel lighting.
Can you Fast Travel in GTA 6?
Yes, in GTA 6 you have various options to fast travel across the map: either via Taxi, via Bus, Train, or by using the Ryde Me app.
Public transit options such as buses have been confirmed, where players can wait at a bus stop to board, enhancing realism and city immersion.
Does GTA 6 have real-life cars?
Despite not using officially licensed names, the vehicles in Grand Theft Auto games have always been inspired by real-life vehicles.
The same will go for GTA 6, which will feature many replicas of real-life cars. However, they will not use the names or badges of the real vehicles to avoid copyright and legal issues.
An important reason why Rockstar doesn't use licensed cars is likely due to real-life manufacturers not wanting to associate their vehicles with the chaos that ensues in a Grand Theft Auto game. All car brands advertise themselves as safe and reliable, so they wouldn't want players to freely use them in all sorts of crimes, shootouts, or destroy them in crazy accidents.
This is why Rockstar prefers creating replicas inspired by real cars, but not using the exact car license or name.
The in-game car manufacturers used in the GTA series are based on the following real-life vehicle brands:
- Albany: based on real-life Cadillac cars
- Annis: based on real-life Nissan cars
- Benefactor: based on real-life Mercedes cars
- BF: based on real-life Volkswagen
- Coil: based on real-life Tesla and Rimac cars
- Declasse: based on real-life Chevrolet cars
- Dewbauchee: based on real-life Aston Martin cars
- Dinka: based on real-life Honda cars and bikes
- Grotti: based on real-life Ferrari cars
- Lampadati: based on real-life Maserati cars, as well as Alfa Romeo
- Obey: based on real-life Audi cars
- Ocelot: based on real-life Jaguar & Lotus cars
- Pegassi: based on real-life Lamborghini cars, as well as Piaggio & Ducati bikes
- Pfister: based on real-life Porsche cars
- Progen: based on real-life McLaren cars
- Truffade: based on real-life Bugatti cars
- Vapid: based on real-life Ford cars
- Übermacht: based on real-life BMW cars
