Dead Skunk in the Trunk

Dead Skunk in the Trunk is a main story mission in GTA 3, given to Claude by Joey Leone.

It's the 11° mission in GTA III in chronological order, and it takes place in Portland. It becomes available after completing Cipriani's Chauffeur.

A body of one of the Forelli Brothers needs disposing of.

GTA III: "Dead Skunk in the Trunk" Walkthrough

Dead Skunk in the Trunk is a mission given to the player by Joey Leone. There's a dead body in the trunk of a car outside the cafe near Callahan Point, and Claude is tasked with taking it to the crusher in Harwood. 

NOTE: A phone is ringing near Joey's garage! Answer it when not on a mission to trigger a series of missions assigned by Morty Chonks.

Look, Don't Touch

Head towards the blip on the map, where the marked car will be waiting for you. If you get in right away, a couple of members from the Forelli crime family will be waiting nearby in their own vehicles. You'll need to make it to the crusher in one piece while being pursued by the enemy. However, there's an alternate method to completing the mission.

Reaching Shoreside Vale

Step 1: Go to the Crusher in a Taxi

There are numerous ways to reach the other islands in the game early, one of the easiest being the ghost car method. Get yourself a Taxi and drive towards the car crusher in Harwood. Activate the Taxi side mission and look for a fare. Make sure they get into the front passenger seat before heading down the dirt trail to the car crusher. 

IMPORTANT: You MUST do this before starting Dead Skunk in the Trunk, as pastimes can't be started while on a mission!

Step 2: Drive Through the Porter Tunnel

Make sure your passenger stays in the car for the duration of this exploit. Park the taxi along the edge of the crusher, blocking the driver's side door. Press and hold the button that starts/stops the taxi mission pastime. Don't let go of the button, or the exploit won't work.

Get out of the car and wait for the crane to hover over your vehicle before getting back in. You'll pull the passenger out of the car, and the taxi will fall to the ground. Let go of the button, and the side mission will end. You will now be able to drive through barriers. Drive carefully, as you can drive through buildings and could potentially fall off the map and into the water, leaving you to start the process over again. Head to the Porter Tunnel on the outskirts of Harwood, drive through the barrier, and follow the signs to Shoreside Vale!

NOTE: Don't leave your Taxi until you're through the Porter Tunnel! You won't be able to get back inside once you climb out! 

Step 3: Collect the Rocket Launcher

Once you get to Shoreside Vale, head for Cedar Grove to the house as pictured. You can get to the roof by standing on a hill and jumping towards it. Once on top, tread carefully around the perimeter of the rooftop until you reach the rocket launcher.

Getting Back to Portland

Since the bridges aren't accessible at the early stages of the game, you won't be able to easily get back to where you came from. You can either head to the airport and take a Dodo, or take a boat back to Portland. The latter is easier, as the clipped wings of the Dodo make it extremely difficult to fly, and you can easily nose-dive into the water without enough practice.

There is a dock near the place you take missions from Asuka later in the game. Head over there, get a boat, and take it back to Portland. You can search for a dock to park it at or drive it up onto the sand behind Salvatore's mansion and hop out. Head over to Joey's garage in Portland to take the mission! 

Destroy the Enemy Vehicles

Upon arriving at the cafe, there are two vehicles with enemies inside. One right next to the vehicle you're supposed to take, and one tucked away in a grassy knoll adjacent to the cafe. If you bump either one of them with another vehicle or get into the marked car, a battle sequence will initiate, and they will try to run you down.

Head up the hill next to the cafe and pull out the rocket launcher. The Forellis won't be able to get to you easily, and you can blow up their vehicles with the powerful weapon. You'll only have access to a couple of shells for the rocket launcher, so you'll need to exercise caution when aiming. 

Alternate Methods to Dead Skunk in the Trunk

If you don't feel like going out of your way for a rocket launcher, you can find a machine gun at one of the spawn locations listed here. Get into a vehicle and perform a drive-by on the enemy vehicles. This is risky, as you will almost certainly lose control of your vehicle and may need to escape a fiery wreckage. Another method is to do as suggested: get into the car outside the cafe and evade enemies on the way to the crusher. 

Reward Glitch

When completing Dead Skunk in the Trunk, the player earns an additional $5,000 reward for each Forelli vehicle that is destroyed. It is possible to destroy both vehicles, fail the mission, and go back and do it again. You can do this as many times as you wish, and the money will continue to accumulate. Money may be easy to come by in the game, but it is quite useful to have early on to purchase ammunition from the local gun shop!

Take the Car to the Crusher

No matter the method you've chosen, once you get into the car, you're tasked with disposing of it at the crusher. Make sure it's not destroyed along the way! The mission will fail if the vehicle is destroyed by any means other than being crushed!

Once you're at the crusher, get out and watch it do its thing! Completing Dead Skunk in the Trunk awards the player with $10,000 or $20,000, depending on the method utilized!
