GTA 6 is making key changes to the Grand Theft Auto experience, evolving the series to offer more in-depth gameplay.
As part of this goal, Rockstar Games has tuned the driving experience, character movement, and even robberies. Each part of the upcoming entry has been made more detailed than in the past, including adjustments to the iconic third-person shooter combat of the series.
GTA 6 Gives Players More Non-Lethal Combat Options

Like past Grand Theft Auto titles, GTA 6 features plenty of high-octane combat and exciting shootouts. However, Rockstar Games' attention to detail means that combat can be approached with more thought than ever before.
Players can shoot near an enemy as an intimidation tactic instead of taking them out. Similarly, warning shots can be used to force enemies into cover and gain a tactical advantage during combat. In some cases, enemies and NPCs might even flee at the sight of a gun.
Also, by making use of the new Focus Ability, you can identify specific enemy body parts and incapacitate them without killing them, for example by targeting their arms or legs.
According to Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson, this is something GTA 6 is doing for the first time in the series. These more in-depth systems can be used to your advantage, allowing you to escape certain situations without making a complete mess.
To push this system even further, Rockstar Games also confirms that players can shoot weapons out of an enemy's hands with a well-timed shot.
Robberies Can Be Completed Without Killing Anyone

Rob Nelson has explained that robberies can be approached differently as a result of these changes. Under the right conditions, players can enter a shop and complete a robbery without triggering any alarms.
This requires careful planning and execution, including steps like shooting security cameras and picking locks. When done correctly, the game's ability to accommodate a more pacifist playstyle can really shine.
Of course, the reactive nature of GTA 6 means that things can also go wrong at any time, creating moment-to-moment gameplay that keeps the series' high stakes intact. A botched robbery may eventually lead to a police chase, but the ability to use non-lethal tactics can still play a role in such scenarios.
Rob Nelson has confirmed that GTA 6 players can choose to shoot the tires of a police vehicle in order to escape without killing any cops. This may lead to a crash, but the officers inside the vehicle should survive.
Similarly, players can choose to take out the driver instead of everyone in the pursuing car. Some of these options already existed in GTA 5, but it's clear that GTA 6 is expanding things further in multiple ways.
Can You Play GTA 6 As A Pacifist?

Making matters more interesting, GTA 6 will combine these pacifist options with its new-to-the-series criminal profile, allowing players a greater degree of freedom over the consequences of specific encounters. All of this will expand the GTA sandbox further.
Of course, GTA 6 may not always allow players to take the pacifist route. Sometimes going in with guns blazing will be the only viable choice, so fans will experience both types of gameplay throughout GTA 6's story and open-world activities.
The good news is that these systems will cater to fans who enjoy playing the Grand Theft Auto games without breaking the law. Surprisingly, there's a large fanbase that plays the Grand Theft Auto titles this way. Because GTA inherently encourages breaking the law and taking matters into your own hands, many players take it upon themselves to simply play the game in the opposite manner.
A famous actor like Millie Bobby Brown has said that she enjoys stopping at red lights, avoiding unnecessary casualties, and more when playing GTA games. Similarly, content creators like DarkViperAU have taken it upon themselves to complete very elaborate pacifist runs based around the series.
GTA 6's new gameplay systems should cater to these fans in a way that the series has never really done before.
More Freedom For Creative Gameplay

Ultimately, these new combat options should lead to more freedom and creativity within the moment-to-moment GTA 6 gameplay.
By expanding the options available to players, Rockstar Games will encourage players to think about each scenario and encounter in a more dynamic manner. This could be a huge deal for the franchise, especially since its more linear structure and gameplay style have been criticized in recent years.
Although Rockstar Games is expected to stick with scripted sequences and scenarios for the story mode, these expanded combat options could still create situations that make each player's experience feel more personal.
