Rockstar is known to present the game world in a non-linear fashion during trailers, showcasing scenes from the late game, followed by glimpses of the early game and swiftly cutting to mid-game sequences.
Perhaps, the first GTA 6 trailer, if seen in a different order with some speculation on character placement, hints at Lucia being the main protagonist in GTA VI.
However, it is important to note that although Lucia might be the main protagonist, Jason’s part in the narrative as a playable character will probably not be secondary.
PETTY FOREVER
The trailer features Tom Petty's "Love Is A Long Road" as the soundtrack. As we witness Lucia in prison and get our initial panoramic glimpse of modern Vice City, Tom Petty's vocals kick in. The song's opening lyrics, starting at the 20-second mark, could be the initial clue signaling that Lucia might take on the role of the primary protagonist in Grand Theft Auto 6.
Opening Lines:
There was a girl I knew
She said she cared about me
She tried to make my world
The way she thought it should be
These opening lines suggest two things. The first is that Jason and Lucia are in a possible relationship, confirming previous leaks that GTA VI will have a Bonnie and Clyde-esque story.
The second, and probably the most important, is that Lucia is trying to control or shape Jason’s world according to her own ideas. The use of the word “tried” suggests a potential resistance, or maybe a lack of acceptance, on Jason’s part. This could hint that Lucia is trying to assert control over Jason’s life, and whether this turns out positively or negatively for their relationship remains to be seen.
Nonetheless, Lucia is trying to take charge of the relationship, and as we can see later on in this article, she continues to assert herself as the leader while planning and carrying out the robbery.
Lucia is the One Who Leads
GTA 6 Trailer Scene #1 [1:13]
At approximately 1:13, we can see Lucia sitting on Jason, giving him a pep talk before robbing an Uncle Jack’s Liquor store. She tells him, “The only way we’re gonna get through this is by sticking together. Being a team. Trust?” Jason replied with “Trust.”
This scene shows Lucia as a leader, consoling Jason before proceeding with the robbery. According to some theories, fans think that Jason is a cop, or maybe an ex-cop, who is new to the life of crime.
The dialogue suggests that he is hesitant to carry out the robbery with Lucia, and instead of demeaningly putting him down, she tries to motivate him. Yes, they are in a possible relationship and this could be her affectionate side, but it could also be Rockstar showcasing her initiative in leading a robbery.
GTA 6 Trailer Scene #2 [1:17]
At 1:17, we see that Jason and Lucia built the courage to proceed with the robbery. However, what is interesting is that Lucia was the one who kicked the door open at Uncle Jack’s Liquor store. Also, it could imply that Lucia took charge of the robbery by being the first to enter the liquor store.
GTA 6 Trailer Scene #3 [1:09]
At 1:09, after robbing the store, they hurry towards their gateway with Jason carrying the stolen cash. However, who is the one leading them out? Yup, you are right, it’s Lucia. In all three scenes, we see Lucia encouraging Jason, kicking open the doors to the store, and leading Jason out towards the gateway vehicle.
Rockstar Games never does anything without a reason. Everything is meticulously thought through, and if they clearly show a pattern, then it definitely references something important. It is still too early to confirm any of the above, but based on everything we have seen from trailer 1, Rockstar might see her as the main protagonist of Grand Theft Auto 6.
Lucia Got Busted After the Robbery and Is on Parole
Another theory suggests that what we saw in Trailer 1 was the prologue. They successfully rob a store, but somehow, Lucia gets busted and sent to prison. In my opinion, the person Lucia speaks to in prison is a parole officer who is about to release her with some conditions. This theory is supported by the official thumbnail and artwork for GTA VI, where Lucia is wearing an ankle monitor.
Rockstar could use this ankle monitor to restrict the gamer’s movement in the early part of the game. This is similar to how the prologue of Red Dead Redemption 2 restricts the player in the snowy mountains by killing Arthur Morgan from the freezing cold if he ventures outside the camp in Colter.
I know this theory, and some variations of it, have been going around social media. Do you think we are reaching here? And if not, would you like to see the story of GTA 6 have this type of tension between Jason and Lucia?
