GTA 6 is shaping up to be an exceptional game in every way possible, and Rockstar Games is pulling no punches.

The team has previously shared plenty of details about the game’s NPCs, Relationship Systems, and more. As of the latest update on GTA 6, additional details have arrived via Rockstar Games’ Game Informer preview.

In particular, this preview has shed light on the game’s weather system, which could end up being the most advanced in any game ever.

GTA 6 Features Dynamic Weather

To start things off, Rockstar Games explains that GTA 6’s weather system is an evolution of the team’s work from Red Dead Redemption 2.

The team has rebuilt the weather system from the ground up, making for a truly dynamic system. What this means is that the weather won’t be the same across the entire map at any given point in the game.

One part of the map might experience severe rain, while another may be completely dry or sun-soaked. Perhaps even more impressive is the fact that players will be able to see this contrast in real time when playing GTA 6, giving them the ability to spot rain or stormy conditions from a distance.

Weather is also said to be persistent, so a rainy part of the map won’t magically dry off immediately once the sun comes up. Players can find puddles after the rain wears off in a certain area to highlight the persistent nature of this weather system.

Rockstar Games’ work on the wind is said to be equally advanced. The team says that players will find debris being blown across rooftops when playing the game, in addition to ripples in water due to strong winds. Hair and vegetation will also react accordingly.

Wind itself will also be dynamic in nature, changing its behavior if it is blocked by objects like buildings. Similarly, a nighttime breeze will behave differently from a warm updraft. All of these systems will work in tandem to create a weather system unlike anything ever seen before.

Storms And Hurricanes Will Show Up

Perhaps the most exciting detail from GTA 6’s recent preview has been the confirmation of tropical storms and hurricanes.

Rockstar Games has confirmed that they will be featured in the game, though it did not go into too many details. Fans have been left asking whether these catastrophic events will occur naturally throughout the open world or be limited to a story event.

The answer remains anybody’s guess for now, but previous leaks do provide a small amount of insight into how the storms and hurricanes might work. Players could see these natural events interrupt the flow of GTA 6’s open world in a manner that won’t be too different from the real world.

For instance, road signs and poles might fly off due to the sheer air pressure from the extreme weather. Some NPCs might also lose their balance while scurrying for cover and shelter during a hurricane.

Together, these systems should deliver gaming's most impressive weather effects to date. These events might also give Rockstar Games a chance to show off some of the game’s destruction technology if each natural disaster leaves its mark on the world of Leonida.
