Rockstar Games has rolled out a major update to the GTA Online economy, introducing significant changes to vehicle pricing, resale values, and the earnings players can receive from selling their personal vehicles.
As Rockstar continues to support GTA Online ahead of the eventual release of Grand Theft Auto VI, the studio has been making regular balance adjustments alongside new content updates and upcoming DLC teases.
34 Vehicles Get Permanent Price Changes

Last week, Rockstar announced a large batch of economy changes, which went live today, May 14th.
These include permanent price reductions for 33 vehicles across GTA Online, such as the Överflöd Imorgon sports car, the Progen Tyrus supercar, and the Brute Police Riot, along with many others. However, not every vehicle became cheaper - the Mammoth F-160 Raiju fighter jet actually received a price increase.
The adjustments appear to be part of Rockstar’s ongoing effort to rebalance the in-game economy and make certain vehicles more accessible to players.

Vehicle Sell Values Have Been Nerfed

The biggest controversy surrounding today's update comes from the changes made to vehicle resale values.
According to Rockstar, the changes are designed to “clamp down on players who abuse vehicle resale exploits.” However, many legitimate players feel the new system unfairly impacts everyone - not just exploiters.
Here’s what changed:
- The maximum vehicle resale value is now capped at $500,000 for all vehicles, including aircraft and weaponized vehicles.
- Previously, players could earn up to 60% of a vehicle’s original purchase price.
- The resale value for vehicle modifications has also been reduced to only 10% of their original value.
- Previously, players received 50% back.
Selling Multiple Vehicles Is Now Far Less Profitable

Rockstar has also heavily reduced the amount players can earn when selling multiple vehicles within a short period of time.
The new resale percentages are as follows:
- 1st Vehicle Sold: Standard sell price - capped at $500,000
- 2nd Vehicle Sold: 50% of sell price
- 3rd Vehicle Sold: 10% of sell price (previously 20%)
- 4th Vehicle Sold: 5% of sell price
- 5th Vehicle and Beyond: 2.5% of sell price (previously 5%)
In addition, these values now reset after 7 real-life days, compared to the previous reset timer of just 18 hours.
Community Reaction Has Been Largely Negative
Unsurprisingly, the changes haven’t gone down well with the GTA Online community.
While Rockstar’s goal appears to be targeting car duplication glitches and resale exploits, many players argue that the update disproportionately affects legitimate users who simply want to sell unused vehicles for extra cash.
With the economy already becoming increasingly expensive over the years, some fans feel these new restrictions make grinding money in GTA Online even more difficult.
As always, Rockstar is expected to continue tweaking the game’s economy over time, especially as support for GTA Online continues alongside development of GTA VI.
What do you think about these new changes? Are they fair, or has Rockstar gone too far this time?
